Thank you for signing up to participate in a study conducted by researchers at Cornell Tech. This study examines how different forms of assistive guidance support teamwork, performance, and workload during simulated emergency medical procedures.
The session takes place in a controlled lab environment designed to resemble a hospital treatment pod. All activities are fully simulated and performed on a medical mannequin.
What You Will Do
- Work as part of a three-person team
- Complete three simulated medical procedures:
- Stroke assessment
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Endotracheal intubation
- You may receive assistance using one of the following types for the study::
- Paper reference cards
- Mobile phone app
- Augmented reality headset
- Complete short surveys after each scenario
- Participate in a brief interview at the end
Time Commitment
- Approximately 50 minutes total
- Includes training, practice, scenarios, surveys, rest breaks, and a short interview

Additional training and a brief practice scenario will be provided in the lab.
Recording and Data Collection
We will collect:
- Video and audio recordings of the simulation sessions
- Survey responses about workload, usability, and team experience
- Transcripts from the short post-study interview
Recordings are used only for research analysis, stored securely, and de-identified when possible. You will be asked to indicate whether de-identified data may be used in publications or presentations.
Risks and Voluntary Participation
- Tasks are low risk but may include stress due to simulated medical scenarios
- Rest breaks are included to reduce fatigue
- Participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without penalty
Compensation
- You will receive $18 for participating
Eligibility
You should not participate if you have:
- You must be over 18 years of age
- Any condition that makes light physical activity uncomfortable
